Lovenkrands said Shalke showed greater hunger for his services |
Former Rangers winger Peter Lovenkrands says he would have stayed at the club if manager Paul Le Guen had made him feel wanted. The 26-year-old Dane moved to German side Shalke 04 under freedom of contract at the start of the season.
"I spoke to Paul Le Guen once and he said if I stayed it would be good for the team but if I went, then okay," Lovenkrands told The Herald.
The forward spent six years at Ibrox after signing from AB Copenhagen.
Lovenkrands said he felt let down by Le Guen's efforts to keep him at the club.
"He never really said 'I want you to stay' and that was the impression I had gotten from the club, too," he said.
"I would loved to have stayed but did not feel that the club really wanted me.
"It felt like 'if you want to stay, fine, if not, then don't'. Schalke showed a hunger to get me.
"I wanted to stay, I really did, so in a way it is nice to think that people might be starting to miss me. That's what I wanted, for people to remember me and appreciate me."
