Le Guen is optimistic about Rangers' season ahead |
Rangers manager Paul Le Guen expressed his delight after watching his side deservedly beat championship rivals Hearts 2-0 at Ibrox. Recalled striker Kris Boyd scored a double, and the Frenchman said: "I am relieved to win after two successive draws - I am very happy with the team.
"It is very important for the players confidence to take their chances and from this we can compete for the title.
"We showed we have the desire to win and we'll be hard to beat this season."
Rangers went into the game after drawing with Dundee United and Dunfermline.
But there was no doubting their powerful performance against the Edinburgh side, who came to Glasgow full of confidence.
Le Guen made several changes to the starting line-up and his decision-making paid off in style.
"Kris Boyd did very well today," he added.
"I was very happy with his goals and he showed a lot of responsibilty to take the penalty to put us ahead.
"However, you cannot play everyone all the time, for example, Thomas Buffel has played a lot recently, so I want the players to be patient.
"Both Chris Burke and Lee Martin created good opportunities on the flanks and overall everyone made an excellent contribution."
