Clement excited by Le Guen era
Jeremy Clement
Frenchman Clement has Champions League experience with Lyon
New Rangers signing Jeremy Clement is hoping his French connection with boss Paul Le Guen will help him become a key figure for both club and country.

From Rangers' training base in South Africa, he said: "Paul has won three titles with Lyon, which speaks for itself. He gets the best out of you.

"He has a good relationship with the players, while also working hard.

"For a squad to be successful, you need a minimum level of discipline and respect. It is a sign of a big club."

Midfielder Clement - recruited last week from Lyon for 1.1m - is rejoining his former manager and mentor as the Ibrox club embark on a French-flavoured era.

My aim is to settle in at Rangers under Paul (Le Guen) and concentrate on playing well for the team

New manager Le Guen is using the South African trip to assess the squad ahead of the Scottish Premier League campaign.

And, despite the controversy surrounding Le Guen's decision to send Fernando Ricksen home for "inappropriate behaviour" on the club flight to Johannesburg, the 21-year-old is only thinking about a successful partnership with his compatriot.

"I know Paul so that makes it easier for me to adapt," he said.

"I realise Rangers are a big club with a big following and I hope to win the title with them.

"Hopefully then we can start to accumulate as many trophies as possible."

Le Guen gave Clement his chance to develop in professional football at the Stade Gerland.

Now though, it is expected the former Lyon player will line up in central midfield alongside club captain Barry Ferguson as the Ibrox side attempt to recapture the championship from rivals Celtic.

"My aim is to settle in at Rangers under Paul and concentrate on playing well for the team," he said.

"That is my immediate objective and mission.

"With Lyon, with the way we were successful in the past few years, it became an expectation there (to do well) also so I am used to that sort of pressure."

Clement, an Under-21 international, also knows that if he performs well in Scotland then there is a possibilty he can make the step up to the full squad.

With a number of senior French players retiring, he hopes to be in the frame for selection in the near future.

"Obviously, if I can play well for Rangers under Paul, it can't do any harm regarding my international prospects," he added.

"The national squad is at the back of my mind, but I want to play as well as possible for Rangers first."
