Smith has been one of the few bright spots for Rangers this year |
Rangers defender Steven Smith has signed a new deal, designed to keep him at Ibrox until 2008. The 20-year-old's contract was due to run out this summer, but the left-back has ended any speculation surrounding his future by committing to the club.
He told Rangers World: "I owe a lot to the manager because he has shown a lot by playing me in the SPL and then obviously in the Champions League.
"Hopefully I am repaying his faith by playing well and can continue that."
Most recently, Smith performed well against Spanish side Villarreal in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox.
"It's been a good time for me and it is nice to have everything sorted," he said.
"But I wasn't really worried about my future, my main focus was getting into the first team and playing well.
"I knew getting a new deal would depend on my performances and I am happy the manager felt I deserved an extension."
