Rodriguez eyes success at Rangers

Rangers' latest signing Julien Rodriguez says he has no plans to "do a Boumsong" and leave if there is interest from the English Premiership.

Jean-Alain Boumsong left Rangers after just a few months at Ibrox when Newcastle made a large offer.

But Rodriguez, who joined for 1m from Monaco, says he has no plans to leave.

"There were some English clubs interested but I decided that Rangers were the club I wanted to sign for," Rodriguez added.

"I have signed for four years here. If the club want to move me on before then fine but I really want to do well here. I want to stay for the four years.

"Playing in Scotland will be different from the Spanish league or the Italian league but I am really looking forward to it."

Manager Alex McLeish sees the 27-year-old's signing as another significant piece of what he hopes will be a championship-winning jigsaw.

"We had been looking to bring experienced players in. With the stakes we are trying to aspire to it is not a job for rookies," he said.

"We feel we have not taken guys who are over the hill either - which has been the case in the past. We have got guys who are at the peak of their careers."

McLeish is unlikely to put Rodriguez straight into action against Inverness on Saturday, but admits he has a tough decision to make in the long term with Marvin Andrews in good form despite not having had surgery on a cruciate ligament injury.

"I will wait and see about Julien because I know he has not trained since last Saturday night's game in the French championship.

"Also I have a bit of momentum with the players who are playing in the team.

"I have no plans to go to three at the back, although I do have the personnel there to play that system.

"But I am not ruling anything out as we have these centre-halves with great experience and quality and it is difficult to imagine any of them being left out.

"So I have a bit of hard thinking to do ahead."

Following Rodriguez' arrival, McLeish insisted Bob Malcolm still had a future at Ibrox, but he urged Zurab Khizanishvili to find another club.

"I spoke to Zurab and said it would be tough for him to get in now having brought in Rodriguez," added McLeish.

"A guy of Zurab's age and ability should look to get first-team football."
