Dundee United striker Kevin Smith has started a third spell on loan to Raith Rovers and will remain at Stark's Park until 2 January.

He becomes Rovers' second signing in two days following the capture of Spanish midfielder Xavier Corredera.

Former Sunderland, Hearts and Dundee youngster Smith spent last season with Rovers and was top scorer as they won promotion to Division One.

The 22-year-old has been recovering from a broken ankle suffered last term.

And United manager Craig Levein said: "With us not having any bounce games organised for the next few weeks, it's important that Kevin gets football.

I'm in talks with East Fife about taking Keith Watson

"He's at the stage where he needs to play, so going to Raith will be good for him.

"I'm in talks with East Fife about taking Keith Watson, who is in a similar situation, so hopefully we'll get him away to play as well next week."

Smith first joined Rovers from United in July 2008 then returned shortly after that loan agreement ended in January, going on to score 18 goals before suffering injury.

His latest loan will be reviewed by the two clubs in January.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Corredera, formerly of Union Deportivo Almeria, has signed on an amateur basis until the end of the season.

He had made a goalscoring debut for the Kirkcaldy club's reserves away to Ross County on Tuesday afternoon.
