Preston have won two and drawn six of their 13 games under Brown

Preston manager Phil Brown believes his players are finally showing the right mentality in their attempt to avoid relegation from the Championship.

North End, currently bottom of English football's second tier, have picked up back-to-back league wins, leaving them eight points adrift of safety.

"It's a never-say-die attitude the players have got now," Brown told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"The amount of effort we've put in in the last 10 to 12 games is phenomenal."

The former Hull boss, who replaced Darren Ferguson at Deepdale in January, added: "Something that we've got in the dressing room is spirit. We've improved the lads in the way they approach the game mentally as well as physically.

"They're now buying into everything we're telling them and fortunately for me when you've got a good group like that and you've still got a chance, then you keep on going."

Preston still have a game in hand of their fellow relegation rivals, but Brown says he is only concerned about what his side achieve in their remaining games.

"We're not going to think about Scunthorpe or Sheffield United or Crystal Palace, we've just got to think about what we can do, and that's win the next game. There's a lot more belief in the changing room, a lot more confidence.

"We've got Swansea next and they play some good football.

"We're going to try and make it into a bit of a battle, but we'll be buoyed by the fact that we've just had back-to-back wins and we'll go into the game with a renewed confidence."
