Cardiff's former Wales forward Paul Parry has joined Preston on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

"I'm delighted to sign," Parry told Preston's website. "It's been going on for about a week and it was a tough decision but I am glad to be here.

"Hopefully I will be able to fit in for what should be an exciting challenge."

The fee for Parry, 28, who joined Cardiff in 2004 and can play on both flanks or in attack, is understood to be in the region of £300,000.

He had also been linked with fellow Championship side Doncaster.

Having arrived from Hereford for £75,000 in January 2004, Parry's early performances for Cardiff earned a Wales call-up within six weeks of his debut for the Bluebirds and he went on to win 12 caps for his country.

But his Wales career included an 18-month self-imposed absence that Parry said was because of personal problems.

In September 2008, he announced his surprise retirement from international football saying he felt like a "spare part", and he managed just two league goals for Cardiff all season.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones had been told by chairman Peter Ridsdale that he needed to offload players from his squad before bringing in new recruits.

Jones says he wants to recruit three more players, and Parry's departure could see a striker or midfielder brought in before the season kicks off on Saturday.
