Davies made 25 appearances for Southampton last season
Preston have beaten Norwich to the loan signing of Stoke defender Andrew Davies - and he may face the Canaries at Deepdale on Saturday.
The 24-year-old, who joined Stoke in the summer from Southampton, will remain with North End until 14 March.
"Norwich asked me to go for the rest of the season - but it's quite some distance away from Stoke," Davies told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"Now I'm here at Preston and looking forward to getting three points."
Davies began his career at Middlesbrough before moving to Southampton and then Stoke, where he has made only three appearances since his 1m transfer.
"I've been at Stoke for six months, but I have been injured so I asked the manager [Tony Pulis] if I could go out and get some football," he added.
"I've had a few loan moves, I like to play football - I don't like sitting around watching people play - I find football's a short career so you want to play as many games as you can."
The former England Under-21 international could feature in up to seven games before returning to the Britannia Stadium.
His arrival at Deepdale is timely with defenders Callum Davidson, Neal Trotman, Liam Chilvers and Michael Hart all injured.
