Henderson keen to impress Irvine

Wayne Henderson
Wayne Henderson last played for Preston North End in August 2007.

Preston keeper Wayne Henderson will do whatever it takes to force his way back into the first team squad after 14 months out with a back injury.

The Republic of Ireland international, 25, has admitted that he would consider a loan move to try and regain full match sharpness for boss Alan Irvine.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'd do anything. The manager appreciates the position I am in.

"He needs to see me playing games to really give me a fair crack.

Henderson made his return to action in Preston's reserve team victory over Bury earlier this month.

"I know the manager would have liked me to have a little bit more to do. I think I touched the ball once with my hands in the whole game.

"But it went great to keep a clean sheet."

I do desperately want to get back in this team

Wayne Henderson
Henderson has admitted that he thought his career was in jeopardy having not featured for Preston since the 3-0 home defeat by Colchester in August 2007.

"We always knew there was a target we had to get to. We needed to get control of different muscles that, because of the operations, had switched off.

"We've been all over the country and to France trying to get the right results and, Thank God, the staff here have been brilliant for me."

Henderson, yet to play for Preston under Irvine's management, can now resume his battle with Andrew Lonergan for the keeper's jersey at Deepdale.

"I'm much more positive with anything now," he said. "Not just my football.

"That bit of light at the end of the tunnel really inspired me to keep pushing and I do desperately want to get back in this team."
