Midfielder Adam Nowland has returned to Preston after Gillingham opted not to extend his loan spell. Nowland made six appearances during his month at Priestfield, but was not included in the squad for Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Carlisle.
It was his second loan spell with the Kent club, having previously played for them in September and October 2004.
The 26-year-old has only made one appearance for Preston's first team since January 2006.
