Carroll will spend the rest of 2007 with Preston

Carroll has agreed a loan move until 1 January, although has signed on an initial emergency basis to allow him to play in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old has played a handful of first-team games for Newcastle but has been allowed to move to Deepdale.

"He's a young player who has got bags and bags of potential. He should be a good foil for the others," Simpson told his club's website.
