Nugent has scored eight goals for Preston this season. |
Preston North End striker David Nugent was thrilled to claim the young player of the year accolade at the Football League Awards evening. The 20-year-old said: "It's a fantastic honour to be a candidate and to win the award is one of the biggest things of my career.
"Getting into the England Under-21s has been tremendous as well.
"When I played for them last week I was the only Championship player in the starting line up."
Now Nugent is hoping Preston can kick-on and get promoted to the Premiership - they are currently sixth.
The former Bury man added: "Last year we got to the play-off final then had the disappointment against West Ham, but this time we can hopefully go one step further and reach the Premiership."
