Preston legend Sir Tom Finney reckons striker David Nugent has the qualities needed to play in the Premiership. Nugent, 20, arrived at Preston from Bury in January for a fee believed to be in the region of �100,000.
"I have been impressed with David Nugent," Finney told BBC Sport. "When you think of the money North End paid for him it was an absolute snip.
"Given the promise he has shown I think he is a player who is going to be worthy of the Premiership."
Finney continued: "I am at a loss to understand why other clubs weren't interested - or maybe North End were fortunate in that they made the bid and got him.
"It did not take long to realise he is very promising. I go to all the home games and he has done extremely well.
"He has scored nine goals since arriving and has scored some absolutely cracking ones as well.
"What has impressed me more than anything is his turn of pace, which you need from a centre forward and which we were regularly lacking."
Preston take on West Ham in Monday's Championship play-off final and Finney reckons manager Billy Davies must take most of the credit.
"Billy Davies has done a fantastic job," added Finney, who spent his entire career at Preston and won 79 England caps.
"When he took over we were 20th in the league and to finish up where we have - it has been a fantastic season and he has done extremely well.
"From what I can gather from the players he is very liked and he has the right idea about how the game should be played and that is on the floor.
"Preston have come from nothing to the play-offs."
