Preston have been ordered to pay Port Vale an initial fee of 35,000 for striker Dave Hibbert by a tribunal. Five further instalments of 10,000 will follow if and when he makes 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 appearances.
Vale will receive a further 20,000 if North End are promoted to the Premiership, while there is also a 25% sell-on clause if Hibbert moves on.
The 19-year-old moved from Vale Park, where he was out of contract, to Deepdale at the end of June.
"We felt we had a good case, and got a good result," Preston chairman Derek Shaw told his club's website.
"I thought the hearing was very fair and very well-handled, with people who know the game inside out."
But Vale chairman Bill Bratt, who had turned down an initial bid of 60,000 from North End, told his club's website: "I am very, very disappointed with the amount.
"I believe he has potential, and he is worth a lot more than we have ended up with.
"This just goes to prove that there is no justice for smaller clubs.
"Preston offered us more than this originally and for them to award us an
initial fee of just 35,000, we feel very badly let down."
