![]() | Thursday, 28 March, 2002, 11:17 GMT Ainsworth back at Preston ![]() Ainsworth left Preston six-and-a-half years ago Preston have signed former Deepdale favourite Gareth Ainsworth on a month's loan from Wimbledon. The winger returns to Preston six-and-a-half years after leaving the club for Lincoln. Ainsworth originally signed for North End in January 1992 and made seven appearances. He returned to Deepdale and made 100 appearances, scoring 13 goals, after a spell at Cambridge. Wimbledon signed the 28-year-old from Port Vale for �2m two-and-a-half years ago. Preston manager Kelham O'Hanlon said: "Gareth joins us on a one-month loan and he will add competition for places. "He knows the club and the fans and he will be doing his very best to help our cause."
