South African company Central Rand Gold have denied reports they have an interest in buying Portsmouth.
Their chief executive Greg James met with Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak and other club officials last weekend but not to discuss a takeover.
James also works as an advisor to the South African football management firm Prosport International.
Company spokesman Bobby Morse told BBC Radio Solent: "Greg James is not going to be buying Portsmouth Football Club."
"He is also not fronting a consortium of South African investors to buy Portsmouth FC, nor is Central Rand Gold looking at buying Portsmouth," Morse added.
"Greg James had a meeting last weekend with Alexandre Gaydamak as well as other representatives of Portsmouth with regard to his relationship as an adviser to Prosport International.
"They have met with regard to the January transfer window coming up. Greg was in the UK, as he often is, and was simply acting on behalf of Prosport International."
