Portsmouth's Mali defender Djimi Traore has joined Stade Rennes on loan with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. The Ligue 1 club were keen to replace Erik Edman who moved to Wigan.
The 27-year-old joined Pompey last January but failed to establish himself as a first team regular and featured in only five games.
He has been left out of Mali's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana starting on Sunday.
Portsmouth signed Traore from Charlton for 1m on a two-and-a-half year contract in the summer.
