Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has signed defender Hermann Hreidarsson on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic. Hreidarsson, 32, had a clause in his Charlton contract allowing him to leave for free if they were relegated and he has signed a two-year deal with Pompey.
"I've always had a lot of respect for Harry," Hreidarsson told BBC Sport. "I nearly joined him four years ago at Pompey before I signed for Charlton.
"It was a tough call not to go then and I'm delighted to have a second chance."

Last season Portsmouth finished ninth in the Premiership, just missing out on qualification for the Uefa Cup.
"I had a chat with Harry about the club and their ambitions, but he didn't have to say a lot," said Hreidarsson. "Last season was a great achievement for them to finish where they did."
Hreidarsson, who has won more than 50 international caps with Iceland, had also been linked with a move to Reading.
His arrival at Fratton Park follows Redknapp's signing of Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin earlier this week.
The French defender joined Portsmouth on a three-year contract on a free transfer from Manchester City.
"I know I'm not going to be guaranteed a first-team place," added Hreidarsson.

"But that makes it more special and more exciting for me. You want to be playing with quality players.
"The club is going in the right direction and they have proven that in the players they have signed."
Portsmouth are also hoping to sign Udinese midfielder Sulley Muntari, who has been holding talks with Pompey over a possible move after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the Ghanaian.
Hreidarsson's career in England has seen him play for Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wimbledon and Ipswich.
He arrived in England in 1997, joining Palace from Icelandic club IBV Vestmann.
