Portsmouth clinch deal for Vignal
Gregory Vignal
He is the sort of player who will fit in well
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie
Portsmouth have completed the signing of 23-year-old utility man Gregory Vignal on a two-year deal.

The Frenchman moves to Fratton Park from Liverpool having spent a year-long loan with Scottish champions Rangers.

Vignal joined Liverpool in 2000 from Montpelier for 500,000 but made just 14 appearances for the Reds.

"We're pleased another quality signing is to join, who can be an asset in a number of positions," chairman Milan Mandaric told Pompey's website.

Rangers were keen to retain Vignal permanently but the player rejected their offer in favour of a return to England with Pompey.

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said Vignal's versatility would be an asset.

"When his chance came at Rangers he showed what a fine all-round player he is and though he is a defender he likes to get forward," he told Portsmouth's website.

"He is the sort of player who will fit in well."
