Portsmouth are to open talks with Greece's European Championship-winning midfielder Angelos Basinas. Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric and manager Harry Redknapp met on Monday to discuss potential transfer targets.
And Mandaric told BBC Radio Solent that he is flying to Greece on Wednesday to speak with the Panathinaikos skipper.
The 28-year-old Basinas, who has spent his entire career with Panathinaikos, was an integral part of the Greece side who were shock winners over Portugal.
Basinas won his 50th cap in Sunday's final against the hosts Portugal, which Greece won 1-0.
It was from his corner that Angelos Charisteas scored the winning goal.
Basinas started six of Greece's games at the tournament and scored their second goal in the Group A win over Portugal.
