Port Vale ready for tough run-in - Geoff Horsfield

Assistant manager Geoff Horsfield says Port Vale are ready to make one final push for a League Two play-off place.

But the ex-Fulham and Birmingham striker has also warned that Vale face a tricky run-in against teams fighting near the top and bottom of the table.

"We've got Barnet and Stockport at the bottom and two teams in the play-offs in Stevenage and Torquay," Horsfield told BBC Radio Stoke.

"But if we do the right things we've got a chance to make these play-offs."

Vale have six games left to play and sit ninth in the table, two points off Torquay in seventh.

We know that all teams that come here will probably play five across midfield and one up front so it's imperative that we take our time and we're patient

The Valiants play Southend at Vale Park on Saturday and while Horsfield says they must target nine points from their three remaining home games he has asked the fans to remain patient.

"We've got to try and win our home games but sometimes it's better to play away," he said.

"We know that all teams that come here will probably play five across midfield and one up front so it's imperative that we take our time and we're patient."

Despite the challenges ahead, Horsfield firmly believes that Vale are good enough to win promotion.

"If we play to the best of our ability and don't make silly mistakes then hopefully we can get enough points and be near the top of the play-offs not the bottom," he added.
