Striker Richards out for season

Marc Richards has ruled himself out of Port Vale's last two games of the season against Wycombe and Barnet.

Richards, Vale's top scorer this season with 11 goals, has not played since limping off with an Achilles injury in the defeat at Chesterfield on 28 March.

"It's fairly safe to say that I'm not going to play again this year," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's just a case of settling it down and making sure that it's right so that I can have a good season next year."

Vale are currently 19th in League Two, but Richards, who signed on a free transfer from Barnsley in the summer of 2007, believes the team does not need an influx of new players to help them achieve success.

"If you can get one experienced defender, a midfielder, a striker, and possibly a number two goalkeeper for either Joe [Anyon] or Chris [Martin], that's a good backbone," he said.

"I think you can work off that, to go with the players that we've already got in the squad."
