Recession can help Vale - Glover

Port Vale manager Dean Glover is hoping to use the current economic climate to his advantage when building his squad for the 2009/10 season.

"This year I imagine there will be more footballers up for grabs than at any other time because of the credit crunch," Glover told BBC Radio Stoke.

"There might be a lot more experienced players there, that you thought you might not get, but you hope you can."

Vale currently lie 19th in League Two, but can not be relegated.

Vale might have seen themselves embroiled in a relegation battle had in not been for points deductions handed down to Bournemouth and Luton Town.

Luton were handed a 30-point penalty at the beginning of the season, of which 20 points were deducted for breaking the Football League's rules on insolvency, and have since been relegated to the Blue Square Premier.

"Clubs are going to have to cut their cloths accordingly," said Glover.

"There's been a few clubs that have gone into administration, and through the grapevine you hear there are more on the verge of it.

"At this level, there isn't that mountain of money to throw into football, so we have to make the most of what we've got and try and create a successful team."
