Dean Glover thought Port Vale were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "We've competed well, we've worked hard, and we've put up a good performance.
"We've probably created more chances than them and dominated most of the second half, but we didn't have the rub of the green in front of goal."
Glover and Andy Porter took charge of Vale in their first league game since the sacking of Lee Sinnott.

John McCombe's own goal condemned Vale to another defeat.
The result left them in 18th place in the League Two table.
