Port Vale striker Luke Rodgers could be a doubt for the start of the new season after being told he needs to have a hernia operation.

The injury is another setback for the 26-year-old, who missed the end of last season with an ankle injury.

Rodgers has attracted interest from other clubs but for the time being will remain at Vale Park.

The former Crewe forward was the Valiants leading scorer last season with 12 goals.
