Keep behind us, urges Plymouth Argyle boss Peter Reid

Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid is urging the fans to keep showing the same level of support as the club fight their battles on and off the field.

Two successive wins at Home Park have lifted the financially-troubled League One side three points clear of danger.

And, boosted by the crowd of 14,347 who turned up for their last game - the 2-0 win over local rivals Exeter on 11 December - Reid wants more of the same.

"We need all the support we can get and that gate was brilliant," said Reid.

"I've got many friends in football who thought it was a misprint in the papers.

"I assured them it wasn't a misprint and that the atmosphere and the vocal backing we got off the crowd was second to none.

"It was tremendous and we need plenty more of it."

By a quirk of fate, caused by the successive postponements of their away games at Orient and Bournemouth, Argyle now host Notts County on Tuesday followed by the visit of Yeovil on Saturday, meaning a run of five home fixtures in a row.

Argyle anticipate no problems with the Home Park pitch ahead of Tuesday afternoon's home match with Notts County. And, having worked hard to get their preparations right of the park, Reid is looking to the fans to do their bit too - as they did against Exeter.

"The supporters got behind the team, got behind the club - and we need all the support we can get," said former Manchester City, Sunderland, Leeds United, Coventry City and Thailand boss Reid, who took over as Argyle boss in June.

"In times of adversity, everyone gets together and, certainly, this football club is showing that at this moment in time.

Argyle face the threat of being wound up in February if they fail to pay £760,000 in unpaid tax to HM Revenue & Customs.

And they have been offered assistance by the Plymouth Argyle Supporters Club, who have agreed to help finance the free CityBus service for this week's two games against Notts County and Yeovil.
