Plymouth Argyle's youngsters lost 4-1 to Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals at Home Park on Tuesday. City took the lead through Danny Sturridge after 22 minutes and doubled the tally thanks to captain Ben Mee's volley 15 minutes later.
David Ball got City's third after 64 minutes and substitute Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni made it four late on.
But the 2,417 Argyle fans did had something to cheer when Jarred Stevens got a consolation in the 91st minute.
It was a step too far for Argyle, who had already disposed of three Premier Academy sides - Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Coventry City - in previous rounds.
Argyle were looking to make the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in 54 years.
On that occasion they lost to Manchester United as the fledgling Busby Babes went on to win the trophy.
