Larrieu has been cleared to resume training, and has pencilled in a return with the reserves for 26 September.

"I'm very relieved it's all over," Larrieu told the Evening Herald.

"It's been a testing and difficult time for me, but I stayed positive because I got so much support from my family and everyone involved with the club."

Larrieu first became aware of the problem during pre-season training in July, and said the uncertainty of the last few months had been difficult to deal with.

"I have never felt in danger at all because the medical staff at Argyle and the people from the Nuffield Hospital explained everything to me from the beginning," he added.

"They found the tumour, took it away and, afterwards, it was just waiting for them to give you the results of all the different analyses. That was the hardest part, really.

"I'm glad it's over for the time being and I'm free to get back to training. That's the only thing I want to do. I just want to feel fit again. It has been quite a few months since I felt fit."

Larrieu has set his sights on a return to the first team once he has completed his recovery.

"To be honest, I haven't really thought about football over the last two months," he said.

"I just wanted to know what I had, and once I knew I could start dealing with it. Now the operation is behind me and I want to get fit to play football again.

"And then, when I'm fit, I will challenge to get a place in the starting line-up."

Larrieu has made 193 first team appearances for Argyle since December 2000.
