Peterborough United boss eyes up new recruits

Peterborough United boss Gary Johnson has said he has already lined up 'two or three' new players for next season.

Johnson saw his side suffered their third consecutive defeat since his arrival against Blackpool on Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm quite excited about two or three lads who've already said that they are happy to join me.

"We need another three or four and I've already told three or four that they're not in our plans."

Posh current have a squad of over 40 players, but Johnson has said he has been given the green light to buy before he sells.

"Obviously it's better for the chairman and Barry Fry [director of football] that we get some out, but that's not my brief, I cannot afford to wait for people to move on," he said.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has promised Johnson money to spent, despite ongoing struggles with his property business.

"I've told Gary that I will invest whatever it takes to win League One and I've always backed my managers," he said earlier in April.

"Even in the Championship this season I've spent £2m in transfer fees and £220,000 on loan signings in January."

Johnson has said that it is important they plan for the long term with players they know will be capable of making an impact at Championship level.

"We want to entertain and we want some quality players who can get people off their seats. We just need to add a bit of quality to what we already have," he said.

"If and when we get back to the Championship we need to be competitive as you can't go look to go back up only to go down again."
