Thistle director Tom Hughes told BBC Sport: "We are talking to a number of people considering putting money into the club.

"As a result, we won't know what our budget is for next season until the end of the month."

Hughes was also cool on the idea of selling Firhill Stadium.

The news comes as St Johnstone assistant Sandy Stewart rejected the chance to be interviewed for the manager's vacancy.

Thistle have already interviewed several candidates, with more planned during May, as they seek a replacement for the sacked Dick Campbell.

But Saints boss Owen Coyle told his club website: "It is a great compliment to me that Sandy has opted to remain with us.

"He is thoroughly enjoying his time with the club."

Coyle suggested that Stewart was among five candidates that Thistle wished to interview.

Former Airdrie United manager Stewart replaced Jim Weir, who had taken over at Montrose, as Saints assistant in February.

Thistle had set a deadline of last Friday for applications, but more interviews will not be held until the financial future is known.

The First Division club's website stated: "Since the beginning of May, a number of candidates have been interviewed with regard to the vacancy of manager's post at the club.

"Further interviews are planned throughout the month, but the intention always has been to make an appointment at the beginning of June.

"This will give the manager sufficient time to plan for pre-season and assemble a squad of players in time for pre-season training, which commences the first week in July.

"With regard to the ground, the negotiations are with a view to keeping all of our options open.

"We have examined various options and the most financially advantageous, and the preference of the board, is currently to remain at Firhill Stadium."

The Jags sacked Campbell in March, with assistant boss Jimmy Bone filling in on a caretaker basis.

Bone is contender for the post, but Ian McCall, who left Queen of the South at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move to Firhill.
