Oxford United boss Darren Patterson has refused to criticise the fans who turned on him during the club's defeat at lowly Grays.
Patterson saw his side lose 2-0 to a team in the Blue Square Premier relegation zone and told BBC Oxford he can understand the fans' frustration.
"They pay good money to come and watch us and we haven't done very well away from home," he said.
"They are annoyed and unhappy that we have been beaten again."
Grays claimed their first league win in seven games with victory over Oxford, who now lie 17th in the table.
They have the chance to recover from Saturday's disappointment when they travel to Dorchester for an FA Cup first round replay on Tuesday.
