Patterson's side have claimed their first victory of the season

Oxford United boss Darren Patterson said he did not know whether to laugh or cry after United's 6-3 win over Eastbourne - their first of the season.

The U's led 2-0 and 3-2 before being pegged back, but eventually pulled away in the final quarter of the game.

"With the ball we look like we can score, but defensively, to be polite, we were poor," he told BBC Oxford.

"But we showed character and a bit of backbone. At least we know if we play like that we will score goals."
