Oldham reveal plan for new ground

Oldham Athletic

Oldham Athletic have revealed plans to leave Boundary Park to move to a new 12,000-seater stadium in Failsworth.

The club hope the proposals, developed in partnership with the council, could become a reality for 2011/12.

Chief executive Simon Corney told BBC Radio Manchester: "People in general don't like change but it is necessary.

"I think true fans of the club will totally support this idea. (Going to Boundary Park) is not a pleasant match-day experience."

"We want to bring people to the ground but how can we do that if we can't offer the sort of amenities being offered at other grounds?" he added.

"In the time it took us to get the planning through the landscape of the world has changed and now this has become the perfect option.

"People might see this as a second option but it really is not. This is a better site, an ideal location for us and it could have turned out for the better."
