The 35-year-old was initially signed as cover for Kevin Pilkington who is expected to be out of action for around two months with a fractured leg.

But Hoult was recalled by the Potters last week to act as cover for first choice Steve Simonsen.

Magpies boss Ian McParland told the club website: "We're delighted. His experience will be important."
