Thordarson won promotion to the Championship with Stoke |
Notts County have appointed Gudjon Thordarson as their new manager. The 49-year-old, who has also managed Stoke City, Barnsley and his native Iceland, has signed a three-year contract at Meadow Lane.
He takes over from player-boss Ian Richardson, who was relieved of his managerial duties last week after an inconsistent six months at the helm.
Thordarson becomes the sixth man to take charge of the club in the last five years.
Chief executive Patick Nelson told the club website: "Gudjon was clearly the strongest in a good field of candidates and we are looking forward to working with him.
"With Howard Wilkinson on the board and Gudjon Thordarson as manager, we are confident that we have one of the strongest managerial teams in our history."
