Lambert rejected an approach from Burnley ahead of the game

Norwich boss Paul Lambert insisted the "bigger picture" was promotion to the Premier League after his side lost to League One Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.

"We didn't deserve anything out of the game," he said after the 1-0 defeat. "We have set ourselves high standards this season and we didn't match them.

"We seemed to be trying to score the perfect goal. They played really well and deserved to go through.

"It's always disappointing to but the big thing for us is the league."

Norwich, who are third in the Championship just behind Cardiff on goal difference, had to deal with the distraction of an approach from managerless Burnley for Lambert in the build-up to the match.

"It was ridiculous, it really was," said Lambert. "What has happened here recently has been incredible and I was never going to walk away from it, I have never had any thought about leaving."

Lambert's managerial counterpart Russell Slade lavished praise on his side, who are hovering just above the League One relegation zone, after their surprise win at Carrow Road win.

"I thought we defended superbly - without the ball it was certainly our best performance of the season," said Slade, who hopes Orient will benefit from a money-spinning tie in Sunday's fourth-round draw.

"It would be nice to get a Premier League team at our place, and I'm sure the chairman would like that too.

"The FA Cup can still provide a pot of gold for clubs like us and hopefully we can tap into it."
