Hughes has played for Scotland's Under-21 and B teams
Norwich City have signed Motherwell midfielder Stephen Hughes on a Bosman free transfer.
The Scot, 26, has signed a three-year contract at Carrow Road.
Hughes had also been courted by Scottish Premier League sides Aberdeen and Hearts after rejecting a new deal at Fir Park.
Canaries boss Bryan Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "We feel he has a lot to offer this football club and he will hot up competition for a midfield slot."
He added: "We feel he has the qualities Norwich City fans expect to see on the pitch.
"He is a ball-playing midfielder who will go and receive the ball, make good use of it and keep it, and when the going gets tough he will not shirk his responsibilities.
"We have seen him in action and we're delighted to secure his signature."
Hughes started his career at Rangers and spent over two years with Leicester before joining Well in 2007.
