Doherty is a senior Republic of Ireland international

Defender Gary Doherty has signed a new two-year contract with Norwich City.

The 28-year-old joined Norwich from Tottenham for �1m in August 2004 and has since gone on to score four goals in 147 appearances for the Canaries.

Boss Glenn Roeder told the club website that Doherty, who started his career with Luton Town, deserved a new deal to stay at Carrow Road.

"At times last season he was our most consistent player and a very safe defender," said Roeder.
