"It hurts a lot and it's hard to describe how much I am hurting at the moment," he said of the 2-1 loss.

"I expect the players to be feeling exactly the same and it's been a long time since we played as poorly as that.

"We have to accept our responsibilities as men first and foremost. We never even got started and it hurts me to say that Bury deserved their victory."

The Shakers went into the game a day after management duo Chris Casper and Keith Alexander were sacked.

Roeder was surprised that a team 19th in their division and without a win in their previous nine games could come up with such an impressive performance.

"Chris will certainly have mixed feelings," he added.

"Why is it that when a club sacks their manager they win the next game?

"I was very disappointed when I heard that Chris Casper lost his job. He seemed a very decent man when I met him at Carrow Road and I certainly know Keith Alexander."
