Olsen attacks Norwich over Helveg
Thomas Helveg
Denmark coach Morten Olsen said his captain Thomas Helveg should consider leaving Norwich to help his career.

The former AC Milan defender, 33, has made just three league starts for Norwich, who have not won this season.

"Thomas is in a bad situation and he must follow developments closely and consider if he is to move," Olsen told the Eastern Daily Press.

"I think Thomas should consider leaving the club. It sounds like pure nonsense that they cannot use him at Norwich."

Helveg, who signed for Norwich in July on a free transfer, played for Denmark in this year's European Championship.

Olsen added: "He is a man who is the Danish captain and who is still showing international class when playing for Denmark.

"Thomas is a man who, according to the official statistical material from Euro 2004, was the best defender of all.

I am not at all satisfied with the lack of playing - the club know that my patience is running out

"If there were problems with him I think you could understand it, but there are never problems with him. I know Thomas and he is always professional."

Helveg, who has been capped 87 times by his country, admitted he has spoken to Norwich manager Nigel Worthington and made it clear his patience is running out.

"This is not an ideal situation for me," said Helveg.

"I have had a conversation with the manager and I told him that I am not at all satisfied with the lack of playing. The club know that my patience is running out now.

"I am definitely not satisfied with the fact that the reality is not the same as the response I get from the manager.

"He tells me he thinks I am doing well at training and is satisfied with what I am doing and that it is going good. But that doesn't go with the fact that he doesn't use me. I have not had an explanation that I can use."
