Rodgers played against Burnley in the Carling Cup quarter-final

Northampton Town have signed young Arsenal defender Paul Rodgers on a month's loan.

The 19-year-old can play at right-back or centre-back and made his Gunners debut in the Carling Cup quarter-final defeat by Burnley.

"Fingers crossed he can hit the ground running a bit like the loan signings that have come in before," Cobblers boss Stuart Gray told BBC Northampton.

"He has a good pedigree coming from one of the so-called big four clubs."

"When the opportunity comes to bring players in you've got to take it," said Gray.

"At the moment I've got several more calls out and hopefully they can materialise and like I've often said competition is healthy."
