Northampton Town Chairman David Cardoza is still optimistic that Adebayo Akinfenwa will sign a new deal.
The striker is out of contract at the end of the month and has been linked with Leyton Orient and Grimsby.
He scored seven goals in 15 games for the Cobblers after joining in January and Cardoza told BBC Radio Northampton: "We'd like to keep him.
"He's got a really big offer. I very much doubt other clubs will be offering what we are offering."
Akinfenwa, who is 25, broke his leg just over a year ago and had to have a steel rod inserted into it.
But the club are keen for him to return to his best at Sixfields.
"The offer we have given him is a year with an option for a second year on the basis of him starting games," Cardoza added.
The Cobblers have already released Akinfenwa's strike partner last season and leading goalscorer Poul Hubertz.
