Russell has been in fine form during his loan at Northampton

The 34-year-old has put in a number of impressive displays since joining the Cobblers on a an initial one-month spell at the start of September.

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray said: "He has been an excellent addition for us.

"He knows when to slow the pace of a game down and when to pick it up and he's got a good habit of always passing to someone in a claret shirt."
