Northampton Town manager John Gorman says he is eager to keep striker Martin Smith at Sixfields. Smith, 31, has held talks with Darlington, but Gorman is optimistic that the forward will decide to stay.
Gorman said: "I had a very good meeting with Martin and would be disappointed if he didn't sign for us now. I am very hopeful we can keep him here.
"But at the end of the day it's the player's decision. He's a smashing lad and I'd love to work with him."
