Wrexham midfielder Christian Smith has joined Newport on loan replacing Charlie Henry who has left County for Luton Town.

Henry, 23, will make his loan move to Kenilworth Road permanent in January.

"The club was approached with an offer of which Charlie was informed," said a Newport statement. "The option to move closer to home was too much to miss."

Smith, who came through Port Vale's academy and played for Cambridge, Clyde and York, has signed until January.

There is a recall option in the contract, though, that would allow Wrexham to bring him back over the busy Christmas period if injuries strike at the Racecourse.
