Newport County enjoyed a morale-boosting win over a Wolverhampton Wanderers XI at Spytty Park on Friday.

A fine run from halfway by new Newport recruit Giuseppe Sole set up Craig Read to score from 10 yards on nine minutes.

The home side doubled their lead before half-time when Wolves youngster Danny Batth fouled Sam Foley, with Read converting the resulting penalty.

In the second half Newport comfortably held off a Wolves team drawn largely from reserve and academy players.
