Matthews parted company with Kidderminster by mutual consent
Newport County have recruited experienced striker Robbie Matthews on a two-year contract.
"The opportunity to work under [Newport manager Dean Holdsworth] made me jump at the chance, I'm sure that he'll make me a better player," said Matthews.
"I am still very ambitious and from my conversations with Dean it is evident that Newport County are too."
The 27-year-old left Kidderminster Harriers by mutual consent despite having a year left on his contract.
"I always remember Newport as a massive club and it was an easy decision to make to come here," said Matthews.
"The step from the Conference South to the Conference Premier is a bigger step than from the Premier to League Two - it's all about adapting to full-time football.
"I want us to be pushing for the play-offs next season and my personal ambition is to score at least 15 goals."
