Newcastle strikers set for return

Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka celebrate a goal for Newcastle
Injuries have deprived Newcastle of Martins and Viduka

Newcastle look set to welcome back three international strikers for their match against Everton on Sunday.

Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith have missed most of the season through injuries, but the trio have been given the all-clear to return.

"It's very important to have them back in the frame," assistant boss Chris Hughton told the club's website.

"They could be very important for us in the coming weeks, the lift they give the rest of the lads is obvious."

Australia international Viduka has been limited to five appearances this season because of an Achilles problem, but came off the bench for the final 10 minutes of the 3-2 victory over West Brom on 7 February.

Nigerian Martins, who signed for 10m from Inter Milan in 2006, underwent surgery on a hernia injury last month.

England forward Smith has suffered foot and ankle problems and has not played a senior game all season for Newcastle.

"Alan Smith has played in two friendlies and will play in the next one, while Oba will have had some training under his belt by the time of the next match," added Hughton.

However, Spain under-21 international striker Xisco is sidelined with toe injury which is likely to keep him out for two weeks.
