Forster has acted as back-up to Steve Harper in recent weeks
Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster has signed a new contract that will keep him at St James' Park until 2010.
Forster has been acting as back-up to Steve Harper in recent weeks with Shay Given recovering from groin surgery.
"I am absolutely delighted to sign my new contract at a club as big as this," said the 20-year-old, who has made an impact with the reserves this season.
Manager Kevin Keegan said: "Fraser has come on in leaps and bounds and could become an outstanding goalkeeper."
Keegan has also tipped the tall stopper to represent England at under-21 level and is delighted to tie up a deal for one of the club's promising youngsters.
"He has worked extremely hard and I was very keen to get him under contract.
"We will look for him to continue his development here and there is no reason why he can't go on to represent his country at under-21 level."
